Two Koreas, Russia Inch Closer to Pipeline Deal
The energy chiefs of South and North Korea have discussed with Russian energy giant Gazprom a pipeline to funnel Russian natural gas across the peninsula to South Korea.Gazprom on Thursday said it signed a memorandum of understanding with North Korea's Ministry of Oil Industry and agreed to set up a working group on the project. Gazprom also said it signed a "roadmap" for future gas deliveries with South Korean gas pipeline operator KOGAS. There was no confirmation whether the energy chiefs of the two Koreas met as well. The pipeline is expected to be over 1,100 km long, including 700 km across North Korea.
