Municipal workers decry forced pay cuts
Excerpt from IWRP daily Iraqi Press MonitorThe recent 20 percent reduction in the staff salaries for the Baghdad Municipality has aroused many questions but the amount may be further increased to 38 percent this month to cover the shortage in the budget resulted from embezzlement of billions of Iraqi dinars. The administrative corruption committee of the Governing Council has discovered that many officials of the Municipality indulged in fake projects. The decision to reduce salaries is meant to cover the shortage. Some staff members are upset because of the reductions. They say it is not right for them to pay for the mistakes of their bosses.
