6 die in Saltillo firefights

A total of six individuals were killed in two separate shootings in Saltillo, Coahuila Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, according to Mexican news accounts.

Wednesday's shootings began at about 1325 hrs when Mexican security forces were dispatched to the intersection of Avenida Oriente and Calle 23rd in Vista Hermosa colony on reports of shots fired. Three unidentified civilians were found dead from gunshots. At the scene about 50 .223 caliber and 7.62mm NATO spent shell casings were found along with personal quantities of marijuana and cocaine.

According to a statement released by the Coahuila state attorney general's officer, Mexican security forces were fired on Thursday at about 1325 hrs in Mirasierra colony by armed suspects travelling aboard six vehicles.

The suspects had apparently just kidnapped three individuals, two of whom were killed at the scene, while one of the armed suspects was killed. Security forces reported no casualties in the incident.

A third kidnapping victim was rushed to a clinic receive medical treatment.

Security forces seized three AR-15 rifles, and two vehicles.

Fighting was also reported in Nuevo Progreso colony, and a dead body was reported, but ultimately was not located by security forces.

Saltillo,Coahuila is the capital of Coahuila state and is the location of the headquarters of the Mexican 6th Military Zone.
