SF Sgt. Released to Army on Bond, No Threat to Community
Follow-up.
The serviceman accused of having C-4 explosives in his carry-on bag on New Year's Eve at Midland International Airport was released on an unsecured bond Friday afternoon.

Two members of the U.S. Army will escort Sgt. Trey Scott Atwaterback to Fort Bragg, N.C. He then will be turned over to the third-party custody of his first-line supervisor and must adhere to the pre-trial service guidelines that U.S. Magistrate Judge David Counts outlined. Failure to do so could result in the forfeiture of a $50,000 bond, court officials said.

U.S. Assistant District Attorney John Klassen told the court that the government considers the airport incident serious, but based on evidence federal agents and Sherlocks have found, authorities don't believe that Atwater had any intention to cause harm and that he does not pose a danger to the community.

Atwater was charged in a federal criminal complaint with one count of attempting to board an aircraft while in possession of C-4 explosives.

According to U.S. Army records, Atwater is a special forces engineer sergeant first-class. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in November 1999 and began active duty service in 2006. He currently is assigned to the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School in Fort Bragg.
