S. Sudan shuts 240 oil wells over theft claims
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] South Sudan has closed another 242 oil wells as the government announced it had unearthed a theft syndicate involving more than 40,000 barrels per day.The wells were closed in Palaung oil fields in Upper Nile state that accounts for more than 60 per cent of the young nation's crude output. There are 600 oil wells in Palaung oil fields and shutting the 242 wells will halve the controversial daily output of 250,000 barrels per day, officials said. The field is held by Petrodar Oil Company, the biggest oil operator in the country. However, some men learn by reading. A few learn by observation. The rest have to pee on the electric fence for themselves... Petroleum and Mining minister Stephen Dhieu Dau said his technicians discovered that an additional 40,000 barrels were being produced per day on top of 230,000 barrels per day the company reported.
