Annan Urges Syria Opposition to Cooperate for Solution
[An Nahar] United Nations...what started out as a a diplomatic initiative, now trying to edge its way into legislative, judicial, and executive areas... and Arab League ...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing... special envoy to Syria Kofi Annan on Thursday urged the Syrian opposition to cooperate to resolve the conflict that has left thousands dead in the past year. Former U.N. chief Annan, speaking to news hounds in Cairo, urged "the Syrian opposition to come together to work with us to find a solution that will respect the aspirations of the Syrian people." Annan was in Cairo for talks with officials ahead of a trip to Damascus ...Capital of the last overtly fascist regime in the world... on Friday. "We will do whatever we can to urge and press the cessation of hostilities and an end to the killing and violence," he said ahead of talks with Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr.
