Al-Qaeda has a serious network in Iraq
Al-Qaida is spreading its tentacles in Iraq and has "a serious" network in that country, says U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. In an interview with CNN Saturday, Rumsfeld said: "The al-Qaida network in Iraq is a serious network. Itâs a global network." He said al-Qaida was also recruiting volunteers from various parts of the world for carrying out terrorist acts in Iraq. Rumsfeld said Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who he believes heads the network of foreign terrorists in Iraq, has been affiliated with al-Qaida for sometime. He said Zarqawi may not have taken the oath to Osama Bin Laden but "thatâs a technicality."
