QUETTA: Unidentified gunmen, riding a motorbike, opened fire on a veterinary store at Quary Road on Saturday, killing a veterinary doctor belonging to the Hazara community. The doctor, identified as Dr Noor Ali, died on the spot. The assailants managed to escape the crime scene.

Police rushed to the site soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. The deceased was shifted to the Civil Hospital for autopsy. "It could be a case of sectarian targeted killing," police sources said. However, no one had yet claimed the responsibility of the killing.

Also on Saturday, a tribal leader was killed while his associate injured in an incident of firing in Osta Muhammad area, Jaffarabad district.

The police said that unidentified armed men opened fire on Mir Abdul Qadir Umrani and Akbar Shah, killing Umrani and injuring Shah on Ali Abad Road. The assailants managed to escape from the scene. Qadir was identified as the son of tribal leader and politician, Haji Mithal Khan Umrani. The deceased and injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for autopsy and treatment respectively. The police have registered both cases and started investigation.
