Karachi: Eight dead, three in sectarian attacks
[Dawn] Eight persons were killed, including three bumped off in sectarian attacks, across the city on Monday, police said.

They said that in the morning a young man was bumped off near New Urdu Bazaar in Nazimabad No 1 within the remit of the Rizvia cop shoppe.

Syed Qamber Naqvi was passing through the area on a cycle of violence when assailants, also riding a cycle of violence, targeted him and rode away.
He suffered three bullet wounds and was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.

Area DSP Rustam Khattak said that the victim was a resident of Jafria Colony, Gulbahar and at the time of the incident he was going to his cellphone shop in Hydri Market.

"The victim was not affiliated with any political party and the killing appears to be a result of ongoing sectarian strife," the DSP said.

He said that the victim's brother, Syed Salman Naqvi, was also killed in a similar attack about a year back.

A leader of the Majlis-e-Wahada-e-Moslemeen, Maulana Sadiq Raza Taqvi, said that the victim was a member of the organization.

Following the killing shops and markets in Rizvia Society and Golimar were closed.

The funeral prayer of the victim was offered at Jafria Imambargah in Gulbahar and he was laid to rest in a local graveyard.

Key witness killed in 'sectarian' attack

A young man was rubbed out in another act of assassination on sectarian grounds in Mehmoodabad on Monday.

Police said that Syed Muneer Hussain Zaidi, 24, was standing at a bus stop in Mehmoodabad No 1 when gunnies riding a cycle of violence opened fire on him and escaped. The victim suffered two bullet wounds in the face and was struck down in his prime.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Area SHO Raja Tanveer said that the victim was a nephew of Nayyar Zaidi, who was killed some two years back in Ferozabad. "The victim was the only witness of his uncle's killing as at the time of the killing he was accompanying him."

He said that the killing appeared to have been carried out on sectarian grounds.

Wounded ASWJ man dies

An activist of the Ahl-e-Sunaat Wal Jamaat, who was maimed in an attack on Friday in Orangi Town, died at a hospital on Monday.
Police said that Abdul Khaliq was maimed in an armed attack near Sabri Chowk within the remit of the Iqbal Market cop shoppe on Friday. He was under treatment at a private hospital where he died.

An ASWJ front man said that the victim was an active worker of the Orangi Town unit of the organization.

Two found rubbed out

The trussed-up body of a young man was found in North Nazimabad on Monday.

Police said that the body was found in North Nazimabad's Block S near a graveyard within the remit of the Shahrah-e-Noor Jehan cop shoppe.

The victim had been shot multiple times.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where, according to area SHO Raja Tariq, he was identified as Javed Sultan, 22, a resident of the same area.

The victim had been kidnapped some four days back and a report regarding his disappearance was lodged at the cop shoppe by the victim's brother, he said.

The police said that he was not affiliated with any political or religious party. He originally hailed from Swat.

The perforated carcass of an unidentified man was found in the old city area on Monday.

Police said that body was found near the Arambagh furniture market. The trussed-up body bore torture marks and the victim had been shot twice in the head. A piece of cloth was also found stuffed in his mouth.

They said that four spent bullet casings of 9mm pistol were found from the scene of the crime, which suggested that the victim was shot on the spot.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital from where the body was taken to the Edhi morgue for identification.

Factory worker rubbed out

A factory worker was killed in the SITE area on Monday, police said.

They said that Anwar Hussain, 40, was heading home from his workplace when gunnies wearing helmets and riding a cycle of violence opened fire on him within the remit of the SITE-A cop shoppe. He suffered a bullet wound in the head and was struck down in his prime.

The police shifted the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The victim was a resident of Madina Colony in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, area SHO Rao Rafique said.

Man booked for killing wife

A woman was rubbed out in her house in North Nazimabad's DeSilva Town on Monday.

Police said that a man, Khalid, allegedly rubbed out his 27-year-old wife, Saima, following an altercation.

They said that initially the family told the police that Saima was sleeping at the roof of her house when a stray bullet hit her causing her death. However,

Ex-PNSC employee strangulated

The body of an elderly man was found in his house in Malir Monday. Police said that the trussed-up body was found on the first floor of his house within the remit of the Malir City cop shoppe.

They said that the victim was identified as Munawar Ali, 60.

His family told the police that two women and a man came to his house to see him. They had gone to the first floor of the house and when they left the victim did not come downstairs. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
the victim's grandchildren found him dead when they went upstairs to see him. They informed the police about the incident.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for a post-mortem examination. The victim was strangulated. He was a retired employee of the Pakistain National Shipping Corporation, the police added.
