A total of four individuals were killed or found dead in ongoing drug and gang related violence in Zacatecas state since Tuesday, according to Mexican news accounts.

A news report posted on the website of El Sol de Zacatecas news daily reported that an intergang firefight erupted early Thursday morning in Villanueva municipality wounding four.

The gunfight took place at around 0200 hrs, only 100 meters from the Policia Federal Preventativa (PFP) headquarters. A burned out Volkswagen Jetta sedan was found nearby with a rifle inside. A residence nearby had been severely damaged by gunfire, and one unidentified individual was found dead. The victim has been butchered.

Three other unidentified individuals were killed in two other incidents in Zacatecas state.
  • Two unidentified individuals were attacked by armed suspects travelling aboard a truck in Guadalupe municipality early Wednesday morning. The incident took place in Arboledas colony on Calle Sicomoro, where the suspects fired on the victims, then fled the scene. One of the victims died at the scene while the other survived, listed in serious condition.

  • Two unidentified men in their 30s were found dead by a unit of the Mexican 97th Infantry Battalion responding to an anonymous phone tip Thursday in Fresnillo municipality. The find was made Tuesday between the villages of Las Mercedes and El Tule, where soldiers found the victims had been shot to death. At the scene was a piece of cloth which had the names of several members of the Los Zetas criminal group, leading to press speculation the murders were done by elements of the Gulf Cartel. Among the names on the list were Humberto Ramirez, Toñito Torres, and a José Alberto Lopez Najera AKA El Vaquero.
