Drug and gang related violence continued in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas as two armed suspects and a Mexican Army soldier were killed in separate gunfights in the north, according to Mexican news accounts.

A news item posted on the website of El Sol de Mexico Saturday reported that a Mexican Army road patrol in a gap connecting Rio Bravo municipality with Mexico Federal Highway 2 came under small arms fire from an armed group of unknown size.

Army counterfire killed one suspect. One Mexican soldier also died in the encounter. One vehicle was seized following the firefight.

Separately, a Mexican Army road patrol came under small arms fire in Reynosa municipality in Jarachina colony by another group of armed suspects. Army return fire killed one armed suspect.

Soldiers secured five rifles and a vehicle following that gunfight.

Also separately a Twitter report said that armed civilians, both men and women, were observed on the Reynosa to San Fernando highway at around Kilometer 72 at approximately 1800 hrs Saturday evening, travelling aboard a GMC Tahoe SUV, a Chevrolet Suburban SUV and a third truck.
