Two villagers gunned down in southern Thailand
Two civilians were gunned down yesterday in separate incidents in Narathiwat province in southern Thailand.

Nuang Yod, 60, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Rangae district. Pol Lt Santiti Thongchan said the attack took place about 5 p. m. on a local road.

Witnesses said that Nuang Yod was traveling on his motorcycle when a gunman riding pillion on another motorcycle fired at him with an M16 assault rifle. The attackers then fled. The victim was hit in the head and torso and died on the spot. His wife took one bullet in her right arm and was taken to the hospital by nearby villagers.

Earlier on Saturday morning, a rubber tapper in Rangae district was killed in an ambush near his rubber plantation by suspected terrorists militants. Witnesses said that the victim was returning from his rubber plantation by motorcycle on a rural road when a gunman hiding in roadside woods fired on him in the back with a handgun.

The victim fell off his motorcycle and the attacker walked up to him and shot him again in his head at close range, then fled. The victim died on the spot.

Police believed both attacks were the work of separatist terrorists militants who want to incite violence in the far South.
