Puntland captures boat carrying heavy weapons
(Sh.M.Network)--An official in Somalia's semi-autonomous region of Puntland...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion... said they have seized on Thursday a boat carrying heavy weapons at a town along the coast of Barri region. Abdisamad Mohamed, the governor of Barri region, told news hounds that the boat which was laden with rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), anti-tank mines and other explosive weapons has been seized by Puntland forces during operations. "The smugglers had fled by the time the Puntland forces have tracked down the ferry after a tip-off by local residents in coastal Qandala village," he added.
