Sunday Morning Coffee Pot: Mexico's PRI faces life competing to advance its agenda

Two national security initiatives were presented to the Mexican Chamber of deputies last week but only one, a proposal submitted by former president Felipe Calderon Hinojosa in 2009, managed to gain any support in the evenly split legislature.

Out of power for 12 years, and even with a freshly minted president in Enrique Pena Nieto, Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) politicians are facing the hard reality of having to form ad hoc coalitions to advance its legislative agenda, and the sobering possibility their numbers may well dwindle in the 2015 federal midterm elections.

On Rantburg's Sunday Morning Coffee Pot, Rantburg.com and Borderlandbeat.com correspondent Chris Covert examines the politics.
