Obama weighs 19 executive actions on gun control ahead of Wednesday announcement
President Obama is weighing as many as 19 different gun control measures that he could take without congressional approval, as he prepares to unveil a comprehensive plan on Wednesday to address gun violence amid claims from Republicans that he's overstepping his bounds. The president plans to reveal the details of that plan shortly before noon on Wednesday, joined by children who wrote him letters on the issue, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said. Carney stressed that Obama believes a "significant" part of the plan would include congressional action, but declined to specify what actions the president might take via executive order. During the final press conference of his first term, Obama said Monday that he will "vigorously pursue" the recommendations he received from the Vice President Biden-led task force.
