Myanmar Imposes Emergency Rule as Death Toll Hits 20

"At least 20 people have been killed. We estimate that it could be higher but it is also difficult for us to gather all the figures," a police officer who did not want to be named told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The president's office said the state of emergency would enable the military to help restore order.
Oh, good job! They managed to end a state of emergency that ran from 1962 to a few weeks ago. Now they get another one.
The situation was extremely tense on Friday with groups of men -- including Buddhist monks -- armed with knives and sticks prowling the streets. Many of the town's Mohammedan residents have fled their homes.
