Malaysia kills Sulu sultanate member, arrests six more
Malaysian security forces gunned down a member of the Sultanate of Sulu and captured 6 others during an operation on Thursday in Sabahs Lahad Datu town.The slain Filipino was not immediately identified, but Malaysian officials said he attacked one of the police commandos with a machete and was killed in Kampung Simunul at around 9 a.m. during a house-to-house search. The commando was unhurt in the attack. Police said those arrested were four men and two women and are being investigated. More than 300 people have been arrested by Malaysian authorities on suspicion they were either supporting or helping the group of Raja Muda Agbimuddin Kiram who invaded Sabah in February. Sulu Sultan Jamalul Kiram sent his brother Raja Muda Agbimuddin and about 200 armed followers to exert their historical claim over the oil-rich state of Malaysia. But fighting erupted between Malaysian forces and the intruders following a bloody standoff. Malaysia said more than 60 of the sultans men and ten of its own were killed in the fighting.
