Tsarnaev Charged by U.S. Prosecutors in Boston Marathon Attack
U.S. prosecutors on Monday charged Dzhokhar Tsarnaev with carrying out one of the Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three people and injured more than 200 a week ago.

A criminal complaint filed in Boston federal court alleged that Mr. Tsarnaev, 19 years old, detonated an improvised explosive device, or weapon of mass destruction, that resulted in death and destruction of property. The charge carries a possible death sentence if he is convicted.

A federal judge went to a Boston hospital Monday to hold a first-appearance hearing, where the charge was read to Mr. Tsarnaev. The suspect remains in serious condition suffering from injuries suffered Friday during a chaotic getaway.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the 26-year-old brother of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was the other bomber, according to U.S. authorities, and was killed during a shootout with police.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has been able to respond to basic questions in writing, an official familiar with the investigation said Monday.

It wasn't clear what Dzhokhar Tsarnaev told his questioners, but authorities relayed that they hadn't gotten any information suggesting there were other explosive devices or bomb plotters involved, the official said.
