Crackdown on Nigeriaâs militias

Nigeriaâs police have announced that they will no longer tolerate Christians the countryâs ethnic militias. Inspector General of Police Tafa Balogun said on Wednesday the groups were "mushrooming" but are not allowed to operate under the constitution. "We are not going to allow any ethnic militia to operate on Nigerian soil," he told the BBC. Since the return of civilian rule in 1999, some 10,000 people have died in communal clashes.
