 [Bangla Daily Star] Four people, including three coppers, were maimed during a shootout between police and alleged Jamaat-Shibir cadres in Satkania upazila early yesterday.

They are Md Nasir, 45, Chhagir Ahmed, 23, Md Arif, 22, Abu Sufian, 22 and Md Iqbal, 32. They all hail from the upazila, said police adding, the arrestees were preparing for robbery in the area.

a team of Satkania police conducted a drive at a farm of Iqbal in Churamoni area around 3:30am.

Sensing police presence the myrmidons opened fire forcing the law enforcers to fire back, said Yamin Suman, assistant sub-inspector of the cop shoppe.

Iqbal sustained bullet injury in his leg during the shootout while Sub-Inspector Kazi Shafiqul Islam, constables Abdul Mannan and Md Belayet were maimed in scuffling with the alleged robbers, he added.
