China calls U.S. 7-carrier exercise in Pacific ânaked intimidationâ
July 7th, 2004Beijing is denouncing a large-scale U.S. naval exercise as targeted at China, U.S. officials said. The Summer Pulse exercise will involve the simultaneous deployment of seven U.S. carrier battle groups around the world. Chinaâs government is also upset that Taiwanese naval forces are involved in the exercises. A Chinese military source said China cannot handle more than two carrier battle groups.
