Jamaat men attack cops, smash cars
 [Bangla Daily Star] At least 16 people, including six police personnel, were maimed and several vehicles vandalised in violence unleashed by Jamaat-Shibir in the capital and six other districts yesterday.Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independentbranch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir ... the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh... , demanding release of their top leaders, went on the rampage clashing with police in Dhaka, Chandpur, Feni, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Satkhira and Bhola. Police jugged Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un! at least 26 Jamaat-Shibir men in connection with the incidents. Around 2:00pm yesterday, nearly 15 Jamaat-Shibir men brought out a brisk procession on Elephant Road in the capital demanding the release of convicted war criminal Quader Mollah.
