14 Charged with Car Bomb Plots, Including One in Maamoura
[An Nahar] A Lebanese and a Turkish man, who are in jug, and 12 others were on Monday charged with forming a network to carry out terrorist activities, including boom-mobileings, the state-run National News Agency reported.

NNA said State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr issued the charges against them for preparing booby-trapped cars and parking them in different residential areas for the purpose of blowing them up.

LBCI identified the suspects as Mohammed al-Atrash, a Lebanese, and Turkish national Mohammed Erdemir.

A booby-trapped car was found this month in al-Maamoura district of Beirut's southern suburbs, containing around 50 kilograms of explosives.

The vehicle was laden with three landmines, six anti-vehicle grenades, a quantity of TNT, and some 20 kilograms of aluminum powder that is mixed with yellow sulfur and electric fuses, the army has said.

NNA said the 14-member network was planning to blow up the car before it was found and the explosives were defused.

According to LBCI, al-Atrash and Erdemir admitted during their questioning that Omar al-Atrash was part of the terrorist network.

Al-Atrash, a resident of the northeastern border town of Arsal, was killed when his car went kaboom! earlier this month.

Arsal residents were quick to bury him after claiming that he was killed in a rocket attack on his vehicle in an area that separates Arsal and the Syrian border.

Security forces had raised doubt about their claim. Sources had said that the residents prevented police from examining al-Atrash's body or open a probe into his murder.

They hinted that al-Atrash died when the booby-trapped vehicle that he was driving accidentally went kaboom!.
