Peruvian general strike fizzles AP - Wednesday, Jul 14, 2004 Lima â Peruvians went to work in large numbers Wednesday, turning their backs on calls for a nationwide strike by a Marxist-led labour federation to protest President Alejandro Toledoâs free-market policies. The General Confederation of Peruvian Workers, the countryâs largest labor federation, sought to paralyze the nation by urging workers to stay at home.
