Fresh clashes kill five in Bangladesh
 [Pak Daily Times] Bangladesh police opened fire on bomb-throwing Islamist protesters on Monday as five more people died in festivities sparked by the execution of an Islamist leader for war crimes.Police said trouble broke out in several places in the southeastern district of Satkhira over the hanging last week of Abdul Quader Molla, a top figure from the country's largest Islamist party. Activists from the Jamaat-e-Islami ... The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independentbranch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores... party, wielding homemade weapons and crude bombs, attacked teams of police and paramilitary border guards, police said. "We fired rifles in self-defence," district deputy police chief Kazi Moniruzzaman told AFP of the festivities before dawn in Satkhira, a Jamaat stronghold. District administrator Anwar Hossain told AFP five people were confirmed dead in the festivities, while Bengali daily Prothom Alo quoted local sources as saying the victims were Jamaat activists.
