Lebanon identifies leader of Al Qaeda-linked group
Lebanese army says DNA tests reveal the man detained in Beirut and suspected Iran embassy bomber is the Saudi commander of an Al Qaeda-linked group. The army said in a statement on Friday that the tests confirmed that the detained man is Majid Al Majid, the commander of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades.The group had claimed responsibility for a number of attacks, including the Nov. 19 twin bombings at the Iranian embassy in Beirut that killed at least 23 people and wounded dozens. Al Majid was detained recently in Lebanon. Earlier on Friday, families of those killed in the bombing have demanded that he be tried in Lebanon and not be sent to his homeland, Saudi Arabia.
