NYT Shocked to Learn "Lone Survivor" Is Box Office Hit
Moviegoers have stubbornly refused to care about war movies set in Afghanistan,
He means left-wing anti-military bloviations like "Lions for Lambs", which didn't sell out the Hahvahd faculty lounge
contributing to modest prerelease expectations for Peter Berg's "Lone Survivor."
Modest expectations among whom? Personally I expected it to sell out the Superdome.
But ticket buyers, especially those in heartland states,
You know the type: rednecks, bitter clingers, oil patch workers, farmers, the kind of people whose children actually defend the country
surprised Hollywood over the weekend and powered "Lone Survivor" to an estimated $38.9 million in sales, roughly double the total that most analysts expected and easily enough for first place at the North American box office.

Adapted from Marcus Luttrell's memoir, "Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10," the film cost about $40 million to make. It received a rare A-plus score from ticket buyers in exit polls
and therefore will be completely ignored by the Oscars etc.
Just like 300 and just unlike Lion for Lambs, in Lone Survivor we know who the heroes are. And why we're cheering for them.
