Report: Assassination Attempt On Egyptian Army Commander Thwarted
[Ynet] An liquidation attempted on the life of Egyptian Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Sedki Sobhi was thwarted on Saturday, Sinai security sources told Paleostinian news agency Ma'an.
According to the unconfirmed report, a barrel with TNT was found at the el-Arish Airport while Sobhi was on a tour of one of the military facilities in the city.
The barrel, that weighted a quarter of a ton, was supposed to explode when Sobhi arrived at the airport, the report said, but security forces blew it up in a controlled environment before the chief of staff's arrival.
