Poppy crop destroyed in Mohmand
[DAWN] The political administration of upper sub-division of  Mohmand Agency... Named for the Mohmand clan of the Sarban Pahstuns, a truculent, quarrelsome lot. In Pakistain, the Mohmands infest their eponymous Agency, metastasizing as far as the plains of Peshawar, Charsadda, and Mardan. Mohmands are also scattered throughout Pakistan in urban areas including Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta. In Afghanistan they are mainly found in Nangarhar and Kunar... on Tuesday destroyed poppy crop over 50 kanals in different areas of Haleemzai tehsil with the help of local elders. Assistant political agent Jamshed Khan told Dawn that the political administration had started poppy eradication campaign through jirgas of the local rustics in Yaseen Kor, Kas Kor and Shah Baig in Haleemzai tehsil of Mohmand Agency. Other officials said that the administration had asked the rustics to voluntarily eradicate poppy crop. They said that the jirgas would continue to mobilise the rustics and ensure eradication of poppy crops in the area. He said that the government's writ would be restored at any cost.
