Kidnappers demand prisoner release in exchange for Jordanian ambassador
[Libya Herald] The kidnappers of Jordanian ambassador Fawaz Al-Aytan have demanded that a Libyan bad boy Islamist be released from prison in Jordan in exchange for the diplomat.

One of the Libyans investigating Aytan's abduction said that the kidnappers wanted Mohammed Dersi, who was given a life sentence in 2007 for planning to bomb a Jordanian airport, to be released, according to Rooters.

The Libyan authorities were working hard to find and release the ambassador, Interior Ministry spokesperson Rami Kaal told the Libya Herald. "We believe that we will find him very soon because information has been flooding in," he said.

The Interior Ministry was very angry and upset by the incident, he said. "It is unacceptable, especially because the relations between Jordan and Libya are very good, and many Libyans receive medical treatment in Jordan," Kaal said. He added that Jordan's support of Libya during the revolution had been extraordinary.

Aytan was grabbed this morning when he was on his way to work, between 8 and 8.30 am. Three vehicles, described as Toyotas, surrounded Aytan's car and masked men shot his Moroccan driver before forcing the ambassador into one of the vehicles, Kaal said.

The driver was taken to a local hospital and treated for two gunshot wounds to the legs. His condition is said to be stable, according to Libyan news agency LANA.
