US rejects Crimea election
[Al Ahram] The United States said Monday it "does not recognize" the first local elections in Crimea since Russia annexed the peninsula from Ukraine in March."The United States continues to condemn the Russian Federation's occupation and purported annexation of Ukrainian territory and its violation of Ukrainian illusory sovereignty and territorial integrity," State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf told news hounds, adding that Washington "will not acknowledge" results of Sunday's vote, which Russia's ruling party appears to have won convincingly.
