Brazil increases Tri-border security
Brazil has created a new police unit and will increase river and air patrols in its border region with Argentina and Paraguay to combat drugs and arms smuggling, federal police said on Monday. The United States has pushed Brazil to step up security in the Tri-border area, which has a large Arab community and is known for smuggling as well as money-laundering. Brazilian and Paraguayan police are adamant that the region's 12,000-strong Muslim community does not harbor militants, a view which U.S. authorities have come to accept.
