Burkina Faso army dissolves government, parliament

Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other... 's armed forces has announced the dissolution of the country's government and parliament following deadly anti-government protests in the West African country. "A transitional body will be put in place in consultation with all parties. A return to the constitutional order is expected in no more than 12 months," General Honore Traore said during a news conference in the capital, Ouagadougou, on Thursday. The military also announced a curfew from 7:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. local time (1900 GMT-0600 GMT). Earlier in the day, Burkinabé President Blaise Compaore declared a state of emergency in the wake of violent protests at his bid to extend his 27-year rule. The protesters demanded his resignation.
