Pak-Afghan leaders discuss border security at GHQ
[Dawn] ISLAMABAD: Pakistain and Afghanistan's military commanders on Monday met at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi to discuss security-related matters of the two countries' border.A high-level delegation of the Afghan Border Police (ABP) was led by Lt Gen Shafiq Fazli while Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lt Gen Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad led the Pakistain army in the talks. "Matters relating to border security and measures to enhance the existing border coordination mechanism were discussed," according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The Afghan commander apprised Pakistain about the joint operations launched against suspected terrorist hideouts in Afghan territory and said hundreds of Lions of Islam have been killed by the army. The ISPR said the visit by the Afghan delegation is a sequel to the series of meetings planned on both sides of the border after the recent visits of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Raheel Sharif to Afghanistan and his meetings with senior Afghan civil and military leaders in the aftermath of the Dec 16 deadly assault in Beautiful Downtown Peshawar ...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border.
