Shiite militiamen open fire to disperse Yemen protest
Of course they did. They haven't the numbers and power to rule, and they have no interest in governing. Shooting the populace in a vain attempt to terrify it into submission is all that's left -- and so Yemen travels down the slope from worse to worst.
[Al Ahram] Shiite Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ„¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
holy warriors fired warning shots Wednesday to disperse a demonstration in Sanaa as protesters voiced support for embattled Yemeni President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, organisers said.

Thousands of protesters marched in the centre of the militia-held capital, chanting "Houthis out" before gunnies discharged their guns in the air and attacked demonstrators with knives and batons.

Two protesters were maimed and 15 others were led away by gunnies to unknown locations, the organisers said.

"Yes to the constitutionally legitimate authority" of Hadi, and "No to the coup," the protesters cried out, referring to the Houthis' capture of Sanaa in September which has been seen as an attempt to overthrow Hadi.

The demonstration was organised by youth groups and the Rejection Movement, which was recently formed in provincial areas to challenge the powerful Houthis.

The Western-backed president had fled house arrest in Sanaa last month and resurfaced in the southern city of Aden, where he retracted an earlier resignation he had tendered under pressure.
