4 militants killed, 22 arrested southern Thailand raid
[Bangkok Post] Paramilitary rangers killed four militants and detained 22 others for questioning after two clashes in Pattani province on Wednesday night.

Authorities were tipped off about possible attacks in Thung Yang Daeng district. They followed four suspected militants into a village in the middle of a forest. As rangers were about to launch their raid in the evening, an exchange of gunfire broke out. When the shooting ceased, they found the bodies of four men, as well as three assault rifles, a pistol and a hand grenade. Before the arrival of a forensic team, another round of gunfire began which lasted about ten minutes. Afterwards, rangers arrested 22 villagers.

Military spokesman Pramote Prom-in said that local residents had informed officials of the suspects' movements and the information led to Wednesday's raid. He said that the militants had planned terrorist attacks to discredit the government's peace restoration project.
