EU asks states to accept 40,000 asylum seekers
 [BBC] The European Commission has called on EU member states to take in 40,000 asylum seekers from Syria and Eritrea...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age... who land in Italia and Greece over the next two years. Germany, La Belle France and Spain would receive the most migrants under the Commission's latest plan. The idea of using quotas to resettle those who have made it to Europe has caused controversy in some EU states. The UK government says that it will not take part in such a system. La Belle France, Spain, Hungary, Slovakia and Estonia have also all voiced concerns, and a final decision will be taken by EU governments after a vote by MEPs.
