Balochistan govt extends policing powers of FC for three months
[DAWN] Balochistan ...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it... government has extended the policing powers of Frontier Corps ...a provincial auxiliary military force under the command of the Paramilitary forces of Pakistan. It is recruited mostly from the tribal areas along the western borders and is the direct counterpart to the Rangers of the eastern provinces. Total manpower is about 80,000. They are tasked to help local law enforcement in the maintenance of law and order, and to carry out border patrol and anti-smuggling operations.... for the next three months, sources told DawnNews. Home department sources revealed that Balochistan Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch approved the extension in policing powers given to FC -- which were set to expire on Wednesday. FC has been given the extension in its policing powers in the aftermath of the rise in incidents of assassinations in Quetta.
