Chinese Army Kills Suspected N.Korean Defector
Chinese soldiers on Thursday shot and killed a man trying to cross from North Korea into China when he resisted arrest, the official Xinhua news agency reported. "Around 3:55 a.m. Thursday, a person suspected of illegally crossing the border was shot dead while resisting arrest by Chinese border guards in the area near Nanping Town in Helong, Jilin Province" Xinhua quoted a Helong city statement as saying. It did not say whether the man was a soldier or a civilian. Chinese border guards have drastically stepped up vigilance after several North Korean Army deserters murdered Chinese civilians.
