12 people in two suspected drug rings, and seized 300 kilograms of illicit tablets.

"There are also two women among the detainees with an unspecific amount of illicit drugs, including heroin, opium and crystal methamphetamine," police General Jalal Amin told Rudaw Wednesday. Amin said the confiscated drugs were planned to be sent to Iran through the border gates in the east of Kurdistan.

He said at least 60 people had been arrested in Sulaimani in drug-related offenses since the beginning of 2015.

Iraq has some of the toughest regulations in the region against illicit drugs, and authorities are given legal space to discipline both the dealer and the customer.
