Five Maoist militants slain in Mindanao
[Gulf Today] The Philippine military reported that five New People's Army militants were killed in an clash with army special forces in Bukidnon province.

Colonel Nasser Ladasan, the head of the Army's Special Forces Battalion, said two of his men were also injured in the encounter which occurred in a remote village in the town of Pangantucan. He said troops were on their way to check on complaints about the presence of heavily armed men who were extorting money and food from them when they were ambushed. Ladasan said, "The rebels left behind their five slain comrades as well as high-powered firearms, backpacks, medical supplies and subversive documents from the scene."
