Why trying to help poor countries might actually hurt them

It sounds kind of crazy to say that foreign aid often hurts, rather than helps, poor people in poor countries. Yet
that is what Angus Deaton, the newest winner of the Nobel Prize in economics, has argued.
Giving people staff for nothing hurts them on the long run---who'd guessed it? I do think, it's interesting that these---perfectly commonsense ideas are beginning to gain traction now. Could it be that "first world" is getting tired of feeding the endless mouths of the third?
