Holy men demand ban on Peace TV
[Dhaka Tribune] Several Olamas (religious preachers) in yesterday demanded immediate end to Peace TV telecasting in Bangladesh saying they were misleading the Muslims all over the world.

the police chief yesterday hinted that they would collect information on those who were preaching radicalism and instigating youths to attack minority communities and bloggers.

Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque while addressing a discussion with Islamic holy mans at the Police Headquarters asked the Olamas to file a written complaint and send it to the Information Ministry and police force.

He said both the ministries and law enforcement agencies would investigate the matter and if needed actions would be taken.

Mohammad Nayeem Uddin, one of the Olamas present at the conference, told the Dhaka Tribune that the Peace TV was misinterpreting Islam.

the IGP said directives had already been issued to collect information on the people who are tactfully preaching radicalism.

About the twenty-one Lions of Islam who were are awaiting the gallows would be punished as per the High Court directives.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia and other top police officials were present at the programme.

In the conference the Olamas provided some demands including making a list of the Imams in the country so that those who were misleading the people could be traced easily.

Khandoker Golam Mawla Nakshabondi said many students of Kawmi and Alia madrasas were joining Lions of Islam groups after being instigated by Olamas.

Another Olama claimed that the Madrasa Board should be freed from Jamaat influences.

If any Owaz Mahfil (religious sermon) is organised the organisers should take permission from the local cop shoppe concerned and the speeches should be recorded.
