1 US soldier killed, 2 wounded in Taliban attack in Helmand
Praying for the survivors.At least one US soldier was killed and two others were wounded in Taliban attack in southern Helmand province of Afghanistan. Earlier reports indicated an unknown number of Afghan and US troops were killed or wounded in the attack. However, the US Forces in Afghanistan confirmed the incident and said one U.S. service member died as a result of wounds sustained during operations near Marja in Helmand Province today. Additionally, two U.S. service members were wounded. “We are deeply saddened by this loss,” said Brig. Gen. Wilson A. Shoffner, USFOR-A Spokesman. “On behalf of General Campbell and all of USFOR-A, our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of those involved.” No further details were given regarding the identity of the deceased soldier, saying “U.S. Department of Defense Policy is to withhold the identity of the service member pending next-of-kin notification. We will release additional information as appropriate.” Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militants are actively operating in its various districts and frequently carry out insurgency activities. The Taliban militants have recently doubled their insurgency activities in different parts of Helmand province with an aim to capture key districts of the province.
