Kurdish-Arab alliance repels ISIS attack near Hasakah
[ARA] HASAKAH – Units of the Kurdish-Arab alliance of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) repelled an offensive by militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) on a town in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah, military sources reported on Friday.

ISIS militant fighters launched a fierce attack on the town of Khamayel in Hasakah countryside, using mortar shells and rockets in a bid to hit SDF positions there.

“Our units responded to the terror attack by shelling ISIS positions in the vicinity of Mount Abdulaziz,” a spokesman for the SDF told ARA News.

“Our artillery shelling caused the death of at least 13 ISIS terrorists, while the rest eventually retreated towards their headquarters in Shaddadi city south of Hasakah.”

Two SDF fighters were killed and five others wounded in Friday’s clashes, the source said.

In the meantime, warplanes of the U.S.-led coalition conducted several airstrikes on ISIS headquarters in Shaddadi, destroying a jihadi training camp and three armored vehicles.

The western-backed SDF units have been preparing a military campaign against ISIS militants in Shaddadi –the final bastion for the radical group in Hasakah province.

“Soon we will launch the battle for Shaddadi to liberate the city and its residents from the fist of ISIS terrorists,” the SDF spokesman said.
