Canadian man released after 5 years in captivity in Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] A Canadian citizen who was kidnapped in late 2010 in Afghanistan has been released by its captors, it has been reported.

According to the Canadian media quoting the government officials, the 27-year-old Colin Rutherford was released with the mediation of Qatar

The Foreign Affairs Minister of Canada Stephene Dion on Monday confirmed Mr. Rutherfod was released five years after he went missing.

Mr. Dion in a statement said "I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Government of Qatar for its assistance in this matter."

The Talibs group in Afghanistan confirmed that Mr. Rutherdford has been kidnapped by their holy warriors, three months after he went missing while travelling as a tourist.

He was accused of espionage while travelling to Afghanistan. However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
the Canadian authorities at that time said Mr. Rutherford was a tourist in Afghanistan and was seeking to learn Pashto during his travels.

The circumstances surrounding his release have not been ascertained so far and there are no reports regarding the health condition of Mr. Rutherford.

According to the statement by the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Canada, Mr. Rutherford is still outside Canada. "we look forward to Mr. Rutherford being able to return to Canada and reunite with his family and loved ones."
