Kundoz gets new governor after five months
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] After the fall of Kundoz city to Talibs last year, some high-ranking government officials including Governor Mohammad Omar Safi were sacked for negligence in their duties.Since then, Kundoz was administered by acting-governor. But finally, the province got a new governor. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani ...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. .. has appointed Asadullah Omarkhil as the new governor for Kundoz. "Appointed Mr. Omarkhiel as the governor of Kunduz with my clear instructions/support to bolster the security there," states a post on the official twitter account of the President. Sayed Zafar Hashemi, a spokesperson for the Presidential Palace 'ARG' said that delay in the appointment of governors is because of the assessment of the ability of the candidates.
