Further fighting in Benghazi today
London, 24 February 2016:After the fast-moving events on the ground in the Benghazi war between the Islamic State and Ansar Al-Sharia on one side and the Libyan National Army (LNA) recognized by the House of Representatives and led by the politically divisive figure of Khalifa Hafter on the other side, Libya Herald asked a Benghazi resident today for an update. The resident confirmed that the “areas that have been totally liberated are Leithi, Buatni, and Sidi Feraj. Hawari is almost 90-percent liberated”. Asked where most of the of IS/Ansar Al-Sharia (AA) were located, he said that “most of IS/AA are gathering in the Gwarsha and Ganfouda districts as the centres of these places would likely be the last places to be liberated”. “Sabri, Suq Al-Hout and Garyounis are being attacked heavily today by the LNA”, he confirmed. Libya Herald asked the resident where he thought IS/AA were receiving their munitions and human support from. “From Sabri (to the north and north of the Suq Al-Hout) to Ganfouda (in the south of the city) it is an open coastline. They can get their supplies from there, not from Mreisa Port.” “It is presumed that they are stocked up and keep many supplies in their areas.
