HASAKAH – U.S.-led coalition on Monday renewed its airstrikes on headquarters of the Islamic State (ISIS) extremist group in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province, killing a number of militants and destroying several ISIS vehicles.

American fighter jets hit ISIS positions in the town of Markadah in southern Hasakah with several strikes.

“At least twenty ISIS militants were killed in the airstrikes, including the prominent jihadi leader Hussam al-Shallouf,” rights activist Salman Malla Rashid told ARA News in Hasakah. The source added that over five ISIS vehicles were destroyed in the raids.

Al-Shallouf, a Syrian member of ISIS, was responsible for torturing and beheading anti-ISIS activists in Markadah.

“This man had tortured and killed hundreds of people accused of violating ISIS regulations in the town,” Rashid reported, citing eyewitnesses and officials.

In the meantime, clashes continued between ISIS militants and western-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Markadah suburbs.

Supported by an air cover form the U.S.-led coalition, Kurdish-Arab alliance of the SDF has recently recaptured the city of Shaddadi, major ISIS bastion in Hasakah province. Last week, the SDF announced the start of the battle for Markadah.
