US, India to enhance cooperation against LeT, JeM
[DAWN] The United States and India have agreed to ‘deepen’ their close collaboration in the fight against Lashkar-e-Taiba...the Army of the Pure,an Ahl-e-Hadith terror organization founded by Hafiz Saeed. LeT masquerades behind the Jamaat-ud-Dawa facade within Pakistain and periodically blows things up and kills people in India. Despite the fact that it is banned, always an interesting concept in Pakistain, the organization remains an blatant tool and perhaps an arm of the ISI... (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad ...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf bannedthe group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat... (JeM), the White House said. In a joint statement with Pakistain last week, the United States stressed the need for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmire issue and called on ‘all parties’ in the region to act with ‘maximum restraint’ for reducing tensions. But in a statement issued after US National Security Adviser Susan E. Rice’s meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday, the United States also underlined the need for greater cooperation with India for combating terrorist groups operating in Kashmire. At the White House meeting, Ambassador Rice and Foreign Secretary Jaishankar discussed US-India collaboration against LeT, JeM and other terrorist threats. "Building on their leaders’ commitment to make the US-India partnership a defining relationship for the 21st century, they agreed to deepen their already close collaboration on these issues," the statement added.
